Bev C is a unique cafe along Jalan Tan Hiok Nee, where food meets fashion. I’ve actually been to JB old town countless times, but I’ve never stepped into this cafe because it is too inconspicuous, hidden behind the plants and also due to its faded sign. But no worries, it’s actually quite easy to locate, find this striking red building and you’re one shop away!
When I stepped inside, I was greeted by this…
I was in shock, and almost wanted to leave the place as I thought I was in the wrong shop. I was so hungry at that point I wanted to just eat. I ventured further and found my “stairway to food paradise”. 😉 After some research, I found out that Bev C is a cafe/clothing brand. Founded by Beverly and Cally, Bev C is a space that allows its founders to express their creativity through fashion design and food.
Hmm, the Bev C sign here is bigger than the one outside… :O This small space here is basically their entire kitchen, but they only serve croissants, mushroom soup and pies.
Wow, they even have a bed inside the cafe! Very tempted to put my dishes on the bed for photo-taking but I might make a mess out of it. 😛
Such a tactful method of hanging white shirts all over the place, as well as wrapping the chairs with white shirts, which fully embodies their concept of “fashion x food”. Love the whole rustic feel of their interior design, definitely a stand-out among the other cafes.
Charcoal Croissant with Mushroom (RM 17.90)
This is in fact, just toasted croissant with sautéed mushrooms. I’m not sure why but it took them 30 mins to prepare this dish. The waitress was very apologetic and kept giving us samples of their food to try haha. Love their use of wooden plates and cutlery, which complements the rustic feel of Bev C.
OOH, doesn’t this look absolutely mouth-watering? My stomach is grumbling as I’m writing this post haha. The charcoal croissant was well-toasted and crispy but in my opinion, not flaky enough. And try to eat it fast before it gets too soggy!
Mushroom Soup with Garlic Bread (RM 15.90)
I seldom order mushroom soup in cafes because it is just too mainstream, and I usually get substandard mushroom soup, with no real mushrooms inside. But due to their limited array of food, I decided to try my luck and give them a chance. And wow, it turned out to be a risk worth taking.
They even added charcoal in their garlic bread. :O This is definitely not your ordinary mushroom soup. It is thick, rich and full of chunky mushrooms, just the way I like mine.
Mix Berries Pie (RM 14.90)
For dessert (can’t end a meal without one), I ordered this mix berries pie with charcoal crust. Apparently, Bev C is famous for their pies, especially their chocolate mint pie. But I wasn’t in the mood for chocolate so I decided to settle on something fruity.
Look at the layers, such fascinating colours. <3 The middle layer was velvety, and just the right amount of sweetness. You can even order their whole pies for birthdays or gatherings, just drop them an email (firstname.lastname@example.org) 3 days in advance.
Iced Rose Tea (RM 10.90)
If you know me, I would always go for rose tea, rose latte, or anything with a hint of rose. This did not disappoint too, a perfect glass of tea to quench my thirst. For the more adventurous troop, you can opt for their spicy mango flavoured tea. They’re also famous for their espresso ice cube drink with chocolate. 🙂
Overall, a unique experience in JB, you should definitely visit Bev C if you’re in JB old town. 🙂
